“To the left Frigg with sword and bow. In the middle Tor (Thor) with crown and spire sitting on a throne. To the right Oden (Odin) heavily armed.” From “Historia de gentibus septentrionalibus”, book 3, by Olaus Magnus, 1555. I am really excited about this one, guys. This is the first major edited work about Sweden presented to the South, published in Rome, and the way it depicts the gods fascinates me. They look much more like rulers (not really even gods) as Italians understood them, not as Northerners would, there’s no trace of Mjõlnir or other traditional accoutrements of the Norse gods. Love it.
